Hugs: Life Has Many Doors: Memory (CW: minor child abuse)

They find themselves standing in front of the Pennsylvania Train Station on a chilly dawn. Surrounding them is the bustling metropolis of Manhattan in New York City. For those who would know, there were telltale signs of the decade as people in leisure suits, bell-bottom pants, and bold colors like burnt orange and olive green. It's early morning, so the streets aren't as crowded as they would be later.

The rumble of one of the most expensive cars on the market, a custom black Cadillac Fleetwood Talisman pulls up in front of a valet stand and Tony mutters a litany of curses and looks around like he's trying to see a hole he can crawl into. Unfortunately, he's powerless to stop this memory just like he was the first time around.

~~~
Four passengers exit the car once the engine is turned off. Two men in expensive suits step out of the driver's side of the car and a beautiful blonde woman and a young boy about the age of seven hops out of the other side. The kid has his dark brown hair brushed neatly and he wears a brown suit jacket, sweater vest, navy tie, navy slacks, and a puzzled frown on his face.
"Mother, why is Captain America at a train station?" The young man asks the woman. She seems at a loss of what to say, looking up at the dark haired man approaching for help.
"Ed, get Anthony's luggage please," the driver instructs the taller, thinner man and passes off the keys to the valet even before the worker even had a chance to greet them. "We're only going to be a few minutes but in case you have to move it."
The kid was watching him with a deepening frown. "My luggage? Father why-" His eyes widen as it suddenly dawns on him. "Captain America isn't here."
"Howard, please.." The woman begs quietly.
"It'll be alright Maria. Tony will understand." Howard looks down at the boy and grins. "Today is a very special day. You are going on a trip. You're going to Andover, Massachusetts where you will be attending Phillips Academy and get the very best education in the country. We've arranged everything and you'll find Ms. Carol Fernsby to look after you once you're there. You're to treat her with respect.."
The longer the father talked, the more distressed Tony looks. He grows pale and breathing more rapidly. Just before he looks like he might faint or barf, he bursts into a fury of words, tears, and kicking at his father's shoes to scuff up their pristine polish. "No! No! You can't do this! You can't do this to me! I won't! You're such a jerk! I wanna go ho-"
Tony's words are cut off as Howard backhands him across the face. Maria and Ed both look horrified at the display but neither say a word. The older man grabs Tony by the front of his shirt and brought him so close their noses were almost touching. Tony's eyes widen with fear. "Stop that! You act like a man this instant!" He gives Tony a hard shake that makes the small body wince. "Stop crying! Men don't cry or throw fits like babies! You will not keep embarrassing me in public, you spoiled brat! Now take your ticket, get on that train, and I might let you come home for Christmas. Understand? Do I need to turn you over my knee right here on the street?"
Tony first nods that he understands but then quickly nods that he doesn't want to be spanked. He staggers back a step when his father let go of him and flinches when he hit something- someone- until he realizes it was Mr. Jarvis. The tall man puts a protective arm over his shoulder and glares at his friend.
"Master Stark, if you'll permit me, I'll see to it he is settled in his seat before returning to the car," Edwin said in the most neutral tone he could muster. It still had Tony looking up at him in surprise, while rubbing his cheek.
"Thank you, Eddie," Howard nods, stepping back.
"Wait!" Maria hurries from where she'd been wringing her hands and watching. She crouches in front of Tony and did her best to ignore the mark on his face. Drawing him into a hug, she promises, "I'll make sure you come home for the holidays, Baby Boy. Please try and get along with the other kids okay?" She presses a kiss to his forehead and steps back.
Tony stares at her in disbelief for a moment, but doesn't respond more than a simple nod. Without another word, he allows himself to be guided into the station and doesn't look back.
